Friday & Directed Study
During our lesson time on Friday and for directed study this week you need to work on your magazine analysis:
o
Magazine
Analysis : Analysing front covers
When analysing you need to consider what the various technical elements
connote and how they have been constructed to appeal to the target audience.
Analyse
two different front covers and post on your blog by Friday 16 October.
The front covers need to reflect the music genre you are going to work
in. E.g. if you think you’re going to make a pop magazine then you must choose
two different pop magazines to analyse.
a.
Introduce
the magazine:
Music genre / sub-genre
Institution / publisher
Target audience (mainstream / niche, age, gender, occupation / income,
interests)
b.
Analyse
how the magazine has been constructed to appeal to the target audience.
You must analyse key features like, the masthead, coverlines, central
image – shot type, puffs, pugs, mise-en-scene, colours and fonts. Comment on
the house style, brand identify, use of language and mode of address For this
section it is really important that you analyse the connotations of the various
features of the magazine and then explain how they appeal to the target
audience.
o Each analysis does not need to be
very long 200-250 words will suffice.
o The examiner does not want to see
long blocks of text so you need to think about how you are going to present
your research. E.g. publisher, powerpoint, www.prezi.com...or you could make a vlog!
o You will be rewarded for your use of
media / magazine terminology.
