The Evaluation Questions:

1.      In what ways does your student magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2.      How does your student magazine represent particular social groups?

3.      What kind of media institution might distribute your student magazine and why?

4.      Who would be the audience for your student magazine?

5.      How did you attract/address your audience?

6.      What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the student magazine?

Research and Planning Tasks

Research and planning tasks to complete by next week:

1. Set up your blog and email your blog address - my email is cottrelll@hlcollege.ac.uk.

2. Write your first blog post – Introduction to Preliminary Task and Action Plan for Preliminary Task
In your post briefly introduce what you have to do for the task and outline what you are going to be doing each week. The work flow on the first page of this h-out can help you complete the plan.

3. Post your work on the generic conventions of student magazines. This is the work that we did on A3 paper during the lesson. You now need to figure out how you are going to get the A3 piece of paper on to your blogs!

4. Complete your textual analysis of a student magazine (front cover & contents page) that you started during the lesson, and post it on your blogs. If in doubt refer to the handout I gave you during the lesson which includes a good -ish.

Preliminary Task Brief

Welcome to our AS Media Coursework blog!

Here's an overview of the preliminary task:

Using Desk Top Publishing (InDesign) and an image manipulation program (Photoshop, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. 

Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP. 
 
Deadline: Friday 9th  October
